Imagine the possibilities
The Early Moody Childhood Center in Galveston, Texas took the KaBOOM! Imagination Playground to the next level
Two is better than one, three is better than two.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) partnered with KaBOOM! and The Early Moody Childhood Center (MECC) for their one-year anniversary and Imagination Playground™ reveal. An Imagination Playground consists of loose, moveable elements that foster a dynamic, child-centered environment: It provides an innovative play opportunity that can be instantly activated anywhere, anytime.
The Moody Early Childhood Center created a partnership with University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Occupational Therapy (OT) program to provide a unique learning experience for students to learn about child development. Students are also able assess young children and provide recommendations for therapy at MECC.
Students observed and evaluate the occupational therapy fundamentals of fine motor, gross motor, visual motor integration, self-help, emotional regulation, and play skills in the young children at MECC.
This ongoing partnership provides a unique learning experience for our students to learn about development as well as to assess young children and provide recommendations in the enriched, nurturing learning environment at MECC. - Joanne E. Flanagan, OTR, ScD, Assistant Professor, UTMB
UTMB OT students work to submit a plan and implementation for an enriched sensorimotor learning gym/playground. Student research focuses on how motor and sensory rich experiences are important to the long-term development of children. This partnership works to help educate occupational therapists on guiding the next generation of children in their growth and development.
